DRAWING AND ART BASICS 101: Exercise for your hands, eyes and heart
This ten week course is intended for anyone interested in learning the
basics of drawing, acrylic painting and/or image making. Through
weekly drawing and painting exercises, one-on-one critiques, group
critiques and weekly art history lectures, each student will create an
individual traditional portfolio of work that will simultaneously
showcase a wide vocabulary of artistic techniques and also illustrate
why your visions are excellent and distinctive.
In class we will discuss the many varying elements of what makes
certain images successful: composition, color balance, light, mark
making, perspective, likeness, style. Master examples of these
elements will be shown through slides from Van Gogh, Caravaggio,
Hockney, Picasso, Goya and more.
Materials: Please come to the first class with a variety of pencils
of varying lead weights (2B, HB, etc.), charcoal, kneaded rubber
eraser and a pad of newsprint paper. Materials will increase as the
class continues. If you also have copies or photographs of
pre-existing work it would be useful, but this is not a requirement.
This class is open to the public.
Call for dates.

We all have unrecognized and uncounted blessings in our lives. Create a slab/coil-fired bowl to put your blessings in. You can write your blessings down and put them in the bowl, or the bowl can be a reminder all the blessings in your life. There is a certain Zen spirituality found in creating pottery. It is the process of the active imagination, and the encounters with the elemental forces
of earth, air, fire and water.
Materials are included in the class fee of $210.
